Hanson Park Conservancy
Native Tree Grove Project

HPC is currently in the midst of an exciting project to replace a problematic section of Hanson Park with a native tree grove. The project was inspired by the Historic Tree Grove on Union County College Campus.

The central area of the park was filled with weeds and invasive species that were impossible to control and not very appealing to look at. Last spring HPC installed seven native trees and several native shrubs along the perimeter. This area tends to be very wet during rain and flood events so each species was selected to both absorb water and to tolerate continually wet conditions.

Phase 2 of the project will add informative signage to identify the trees and to help educate the community as to the benefits of native plantings.  HPC will also seek to install additional native species as additional funding becomes available.

Please consider becoming a sponsor of this important project.

Every donation will be matched dollar for dollar by a generous benefactor to Hanson Park.
